Wuxi Profile
Wuxi, located in the center of the Yangtze River
Delta with Shanghai to the east and Nanjing to the west,
embraced by the Taihu Lake in the south with the Yangtze
River flowing through in the north, has a jurisdiction over
7 districts, namely Chong’an District, Nanchang District,
Beitang District, Binhu District, Huishan District, Xishan
District and the New District, and two county-level cities,
i.e. Jiangyin and Yixing, Covering an area of 4788 km2 with
a population of 4.48 million, Wuxi enjoys a humid and warm
subtropical climate with four distinct seasons and has long
been known as “the Pearl of Taihu Lake” .
Wuxi boasts plenty of natural landscapes and beautiful
sceneries including the vast and charming Taihu Lake, the
beautiful Huishan Hill, the Turtle-head Islet, Lihu Lake,
the Plum Blossom Garden, the Lingshan Buddhism Resort, the
Second Best Spring Mirroring the Moon and the Jichang
Garden, which together form a natural picture always makes
the tourists linger on. Yixing, the capital of pottery at
the juncture of three provinces, home to many scenic spots,
such as the Shanjuan Karst Cave, Bamboo Groove,tea
plantation and luxuriant forest functioning as the “the

Jiangyin, hometown of Xu Xiake, the famous ancient Chinese
traveler, at the end of the East Sea of China and possessing
the Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge, which is one of
the longest suspension bridges in China, is a significant
city at the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Here you
will marvel at the spectacular of the Yangtze River passing
by Jiangyin and then rushing into the sea.
Wuxi is also the hometown of many academicians. In the past
3000 years, as the birthplace of the Wu culture, Wuxi has

great artists like Gu Kaizhi, Ni Yunlin, Xu Beihong and Yin
Shoushi, great scholars, like Qian Zhongshu, Sun Yefang,
Chen Hansheng and Gu Yuxiu, outstanding scientists like Zhou
Peiyuan, Qian Weichang, Wang Xuan and Yao Tongbin, famous
businessmen like Rong Zongjing, Rong Desheng and Tang
Junyuan, social activists like Qin Bangxian, Lu Dingyi, Wang
Kunlun and Rong Yiren, the history-honored traveler Xu Xiake,
music geniuses like Hua Yanjun and Liu Tianhua, all of whom
have made remarkable contribution in the Chinese history.
And in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences, 87 of all the academicians’
hometown is Wuxi, so the number makes Wuxi rank high among
the cities of the same level in China.

RMB 8000 and Wuxi’s comprehensive city competitiveness
ranked No.8 among all the cities in China. In the 11th
Five-year Plan period, Wuxi will build itself into an
advanced international manufacture and technology center, a
regional trade and logistics center, an innovation and
designing center, a vocational education center and a
tourist and relaxation center in this way in order to take
the lead in realizing the basic modernization and secure the
